Well, Jason actually turned nine last night! We've been partying for a week now and we still are a little bit! LOL We still have to celebrate with our family and friends from home and then it will be O V E R!!! He is so cute and we have enjoyed his birthday so much this year. He has truly appreciated all the fun things we've done. Around our house, you don't just get a birth DAY...you get a Birthday WEEK! Birthdays are really important to me. I want the kids to feel like they are extra special on their birthday and I usually go out of my way to show them a great time. Some people may think it's going overboard but everyone has their own style. My goal on every birthday for my babies is to make sure when they get tucked in on their birthday, they can go to sleep thinking "This was the best birthday I've ever had". We don't spend more money than the last year, we just try to do special things. Yesterday, Jason and Sarah & I had to take the car for an oil change before school and while they changed it at Wal-Mart, we had a birthday breakfast at McDonald's which Jason felt like was the ONLY reason we were there! Dropping the car off at the back entrance was like "VIP Parking" for him! LOL
Then, I took him to school. I had a bunch of car maintenance errands to run and then I picked up a kids' meal from Chick-fil-a and surprised him at school for lunch. He loved that. He was in line for "Steak" fingers and he saw me and jumped out and told his teacher "I'm not steak fingers anymore! My mom saved me!!!" It was hilarious! They get a choice every day and they have to tell the teacher before getting to the cafeteria so she can tell the lady "10 steak finger plates, 7 chicken burger plates" and it makes it go smoother. He was so thankful for those chicken nuggets yesterday! I also took him a few balloons and they were on the lunch table with us. He got to pick a friend to sit with us and we had a great lunch!
Afterwards, I left him for a little while so he could enjoy recess and I went to finish my errands. I came back around 2 and picked him up early. We went to get Sarah from her "Miss Tanna's" house and then headed home so he could practice his act for the talent show! It was also last night! Whew....
Then......he crashed on the couch. Too tired to party! LOL
I woke him up around 4:45 and made him get dressed so we could go to the talent show which has been the most anticpated event of his life! He was so funny! He helped pick out the perfect "rocker" outfit and made me fix his hair really spikey in the front. He was going for the whole package, here, people!
We had to meet Todd at the school because he was out of town all day yesterday for work and was running late but he made it right as the show was fixing to start, so Jason was excited! The talent show was great! All of the kids were so cute and some were extremely talented! I was amazed. Jason was the 14th act so it took a while for him to go on. When he did....it was awesome! Moms and Dads all over the room had jaws dropped and big eyes as they could not believe this little kid rockin' out on the electric guitar with songs they could actually tell what they were! He made a "Rock Combo" of about 6 songs mixed together to make one great song! It was cool. Everyone loved it and when he was finished....everyone was screaming and clapping...not just clapping! He was on top of the world! That was the best birthday present he could have gotten was to get to perform for a huge audience! HE LOVED IT! He did say he was nervous and shaking, but we couldn't tell and he played perfectly!
After the talent show was over, it was about 7:15. We headed to Chuck E. Cheese! Me and Todd and Jason and Sarah were like little kids! We played and played until almost 9 and ate pizza and just had a great time! I took pictures of the "chuck e" sketches we got in the photo booth. They are great! I especially love mine & Todd's! LOL The only way I could get him to do it was to make a goofy face. That's my man! LOL
After I was worn out from all the playing, we left to come home. We still had not given him his "real" present yet which was a bicycle. I had it hidden in my bathroom and he knew he was getting one for his birthday but on the way home I told him I never got to go get it because Daddy was out of town yesterday and he has to pick it up and that we would go get it "tomorrow". He was okay with that plan but was really surprised and excited when we rolled it out right before he was going to bed! I took him outside and let him ride up and down the street for about 15 minutes while I watched him. He was so excited. We had so much fun watching him.
Kids are such a blessing and we are so thankful for both of ours. Seeing their little faces light up just puts a smile on mine! On the way home last night, Jason reached over and hugged me and said' "this was the best birthday ever and you are the best mommy ever" and I nearly cried. That makes it worth it all!
I hope you all have a great holiday weekend! Love to all! Sharon
